Every business in the country, possibly even the world has been affected by the coronavirus in some sort of way. One of them being my mom’s business. My mom has been doing hair for over twenty years now and has worked in several local salons along with owning her own traveling hair salon.

I don’t want to put a picture of her online so this is her business card

She travels to anyone’s home, but her main source of business are the elderly. Many of them are very old or sick and they cannot make it to an actual salon, so she comes to them. Since most of her customers are sixty-five or older it makes them more likely to die from covid-19. At the start of the pandemic my mom was out of work for months. When it was finally clear for her to work again everything changed. People were scared to let her inside their homes, so she was forced to work outside. In the summer she was out in the sun all day wearing two masks for hours at a time. When it started getting colder things changed once again. She was still working outside, but now it was freezing. She comes home every day with her hands chapped and toes frozen.

Besides the working conditions she has lost several customers. She used to have five to ten a day and now it’s down to five to ten a week. It is very scary when you have a thriving business that dwindles down to nothing in a matter of months.

Our family along with many others has been affected greatly by this pandemic financially, physically, and mentally. You read about this kind of thing in history books and you hear about it on the news, but you never think it could happen to you.
